HOW DOES HYPNOTHERAPY HELP WITH WEIGHT LOSS?

At its core, hypnosis helps people change their habits, which can include a tendency to overeat or make unhealthy dietary choices.

Exercise and diet can’t be ignored but hypnotherapy is powerful for long-term mindset shifts.

A strong mindset is vital to maintain the healthy habits you’re trying to form.

In terms of the research, here’s what science has to say about hypnotherapy and weight loss…

In a controlled clinical study published in Nature, researchers analysed the effects of hypnotherapy on weight loss in patients with obstructive sleep apnea.

The study mainly focused on two forms of hypnotherapy and compared them to a simple, calorie-restricted diet.

By the end of the three months, participants from all groups lost 2-3% of their body weight.

However, at the 18-month follow-up, the results varied…

Researchers noted that individuals who received hypnotherapy lost an additional 3.6 kg (i.e. 8 pounds) on average.

Although this isn’t a gigantic number, it intrigued researchers to further investigate the potential effects of hypnotherapy on weight loss.

In another research paper in PubMed, a meta-analysis of 18 studies was completed comparing the results of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) to CBT supplemented with hypnosis.

The addition of hypnosis was found to significantly improve treatment success.

As the research journal summarises:

“Effects seemed particularly pronounced for treatments of obesity, especially at long-term follow-up.”

This means that clients who received hypnosis along with CBT lost more weight post-treatment than those receiving CBT alone.

Hypnosis has also shown impressive results in reducing low-grade inflammation for people with inflammatory bowel disease.

This benefit may partially explain the effects of hypnotherapy on weight loss since generalised inflammation is a hallmark of obesity.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A HYPNOSIS SESSION?

When you attend hypnosis for the first time, your therapist will explain the process and how it promotes weight loss.

You will then discuss any questions, concerns, or fears you may have, as well as your ultimate goals for therapy.

This will assist you and your hypnotherapist to set up a personalised plan that’s tailored to your needs, instead of a “one-size-fits-all” approach.

Your therapist will speak calmly to ease you into a state of deep relaxation. This will help lower your stress levels.

Once you reach a more receptive state of mind, your therapist may recommend dietary and exercise changes to help you reach your weight loss goals, whilst distancing yourself from the unhealthy habits that negatively affect your body.

To further motivate you, the therapist may use mental imagery to help you picture yourself reaching those goals.

Once all the major points have been covered, your therapist will gently bring you out of hypnosis.

People often start to see results after 2-3 sessions, but the number and length of sessions depend on your initial state of health and your ultimate goals.

City Hypnosis sessions are available both online and face-to-face, if you prefer to access weight loss hypnotherapy in London.

We have a 4.7* / 5 rating and over 90 client reviews on Google, which is more than other London hypnotherapy clinics.

We also have a customised weight loss hypnosis audio, which you can download to try at home.

You can find our weight loss hypnosis audio on this page:

Angela’s weight loss journey with City Hypnosis (Source: YouTube)

Our weight loss hypnotherapy programme has been running for over 15 years, so we’ve been able to support hundreds of clients on their weight loss journey.

Our success so far hasn’t gone unnoticed…

We were featured in one of the UK’s most popular health publications, Healthy Magazine.

The article mentioned Karolina Delig, who was able to lose more than 3 stone with City Hypnosis.

Her weight loss hypnotherapy review is below:

“My life changed completely after seeing Aaron. I’ve lost 3.5 stones (49 pounds) from size 18 to 12. I’ve gained my confidence back.” – KAROLINA

Here’s another weight loss hypnotherapy success stories from our reviews page…

“I came to Aaron as I was having cravings for sweet things – chocolate, biscuits, crisps, ice cream following new medications I had been prescribed by my Doctor. It was really getting me down. I have had two sessions and the cravings have totally disappeared.  I am exercising more, eating healthily and have started to lose weight. Really delighted with the results.” – GISELLA

And another…

“I was a bit skeptical about the hypnosis process for weight loss when I first started but after spending a small fortune on gym memberships, home workout equipment and diet plans, I knew it was time to work on the one thing that has held me back every time I’ve tried to lose weight: my mind. Over the four weeks, the sessions with Aaron completely changed my relationship with food and I’ve lost over 4kg in the process. I can’t recommend this service highly enough.” – CONNIE

IS HYPNOTHERAPY FOR ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION ABOUT TO HIT THE MAINSTREAM?

Is Hypnotherapy for Anxiety and Depression About to Hit the Mainstream?

15th October 2020 by Aaron Surtees, the UK’s most recommended hypnotherapist

Mention hypnosis at a party and you’ll probably get a fair mix of reactions…

The more enthusiastic people will rave about how it’s a great way to relax the mind, and others will say that they are intrigued to give it a go.

But what about the more suspicious folks in the room?

Don’t be surprised if they raise their eyebrows and say something like:

“But isn’t hypnosis like magic?” or…

“Being put into a trance sounds kinda freaky…”

How powerful hypnosis really is has been a hot topic for years…

This is despite its origins having a rich history that dates as far back as ancient medicine.

Hypnotism was brought to the forefront of scientific study in the 1800s, thanks to the work of doctors Franz Mesmer and James Braid.

Braid found that hypnosis was a valuable therapy for health practitioners to offer patients who had disorders of the nervous system.

Although we could delve deeper into the discoveries of the 1800s, I’m sure you’d rather find out what’s happening today…

So, does modern hypnotherapy for anxiety and depression really have potential?

The answer is most certainly “yes.”

I’ve had the good fortune of directing a leading hypnotherapy practice in London for over 15 years.

Now, I wouldn’t use words like “miracle” or “magic”, but our 100+ reviews clearly show that people feel calmer, happier, and more in control of their lives after hypnotherapy sessions.

In this article, we’ll share some of these reviews, assess the research so far on hypnotherapy, and provide resources that you may find helpful.

SO… WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH HYPNOTHERAPY FOR ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION?

As confirmed by the American Psychological Association, the majority of clinicians now agree…

Hypnosis can indeed be a very effective treatment for a variety of conditions, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Chronic pain

Hypnosis has also been found to work well for those who wish to break bad habits, which makes it a great option for treating addictions like smoking.

All signs point towards hypnotherapy (through which the state of hypnosis occurs) becoming more of a mainstream therapy in the coming years.

But what’s the research to back up its potential?

Well, I thought I’d share a few studies on hypnotherapy for anxiety and depression that you may find interesting…

In a meta-analysis of 18 studies, scientists discovered that the addition of hypnosis made a significant improvement in treatment outcomes for cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT).

These positive effects were especially large at long-term follow-up, which offers promise for hypnosis making lasting changes for patients.

In terms of anxiety treatment, cognitive hypnotherapy seems to be as effective as behavioural therapy (BT) and CBT that uses imagery and relaxation strategies.

As the nationally-renowned Anxiety UK reports, people are experiencing excellent results with clinical hypnotherapy.

On their hypnosis page, they feature a testimonial from Betty — an anxiety-sufferer who made great progress:

“I was suffering with panic attacks on the train to the point where it was almost impossible to travel to work. I was feeling very tearful and in a complete state of panic when I went to see a hypnotherapist through Anxiety UK for treatment. I found the hypnotherapist very easy to talk to, and my whole experience of hypnotherapy was very easy and straightforward…”

There have also been compelling arguments for the use of hypnotherapy for depression.

Dr. Michael Yapko has said that hypnosis is a relevant treatment for depression.

He states that the ability of hypnosis to change an individual’s patterns of self-organisation (e.g. attention, cognition, and perception styles) that contribute to mood disorders, such as depression.

Dr. Yapko has also published a book on the topic, titled Hypnosis and the Treatment of Depression: Strategies for Changeif you’d like to read more on the topic.

NHS HYPNOTHERAPY FOR ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION… IS IT AVAILABLE?

Much to the frustration of the many people searching for hypnosis treatment, hypnotherapy for anxiety and depression is not usually available on the NHS.

However, you may contact your GP surgery to ask them if such services are available in your area.

In most cases, people access hypnotherapy privately.

When looking for a private hypnotherapist, please make sure they’re experienced at what they do.

A few questions to consider are:

  • Do they have 5-10 years of experience (or more) practicing hypnotherapy?
  • Do they have relevant qualifications, e.g. in psychology or mental health?
  • Also, do they seem approachable and friendly?

You’ll want to choose a hypnotherapist that you can trust and feel comfortable with.

HOW TO MANIFEST SELF-CONFIDENCE WITH THE LAW OF ATTRACTION

How to Manifest Self-Confidence with the Law of Attraction

26th October 2020 by Aaron Surtees, the UK’s most recommended hypnotherapist

What’s the deal with this mysterious thing called confidence?

It goes up, it goes down… and when you need it most, it has the nasty habit of going missing.

Annoying, right?

Wouldn’t life be a lot simpler if you could generate confidence on the spot… or even better if you could feel more consistently “at ease” with yourself?

One thing’s for sure, public interest in how to use the Law of Attraction for self-confidence is on the rise.

There is an array of programmes, courses, and YouTube videos to choose from.

The question is, though — does the Law of Attraction really work?

And if it can indeed make a difference, what are some of the best self-confidence affirmations to get started?

If you’d like to find out more, today’s article could be for you…

Here are the key topics I’ll be discussing:

  • What’s the True Meaning of the Law of Attraction?
  • Does the Law of Attraction Really Work?
  • 10 Self-Confidence Affirmations You Can Use Today
  • Where to Access Law of Attraction Hypnosis

blank

WHAT’S THE TRUE MEANING OF THE LAW OF ATTRACTION?

At its most basic level, the Law of Attraction is about taking back control and a feeling of self-empowerment.

A central part of the New Thought philosophy, the law proposes that you can bring more positive or negative experiences into your life depending on the nature of your thoughts.

New Thought philosophy explores the possibility that people have more power to change their circumstances than is often presumed.

The Law of Attraction looks at reality from the perspective of energy.

Thoughts and beliefs are all made up of energy. With this in mind, the Law of Attraction states that you can take steps to “level-up” your energy and invite healthier emotions, improved relationships, or increased wealth.

Sounds pretty appealing…

But first, what does science say about it?

DOES THE LAW OF ATTRACTION REALLY WORK?

Although Plato — the ancient Greek philosopher — wrote in 391 BC that “likes tend towards likes,” some dismiss the Law of Attraction as a pseudoscience.

A large part of this is due to how hard it is to clearly measure and quantify energy.

Scientists face challenges in being able to establish causality, e.g. how to prove repeated positive thoughts cause positive experiences or events to take place.

Still, there are plenty of encouraging results from the studies that reflect well on the Law of Attraction.

As reported by HuffPost, brain imaging studies have shown how important “mirror neurons” are in how we process and perceive information.

Mirror neurons have been proven to activate through observation alone…

For example, when you see someone smile, the neurons that would become active if you were to smile yourself still turn on.

These activations take place in the parts of the brain that make us more attentive — the premotor and parietal cortex.

But why should we pay attention to this function of neurology?

It boils down to this…

The research suggests that we can generate internal emotional states from external stimuli.

One instance of this is pain. Neurobiology shows that emotions are fundamental in how people experience the sensation of pain.

Focusing or dwelling on pain can make the feeling of discomfort more intense — particularly for those with chronic pain.

And what about confidence?

Well, the scientific discovery of mirror neurons is a potential game-changer.

External stimuli like motivational videos may activate your mirror neurons, but watching a one-off video probably won’t have a long-lasting effect.

Instead, repeated stimuli — such as daily affirmations and visualisations — may provide more consistent neuron activations.

As the well-respected American author and motivational speaker, Jack Canfield says:

“If you are feeling excited, enthusiastic, passionate, happy, joyful, appreciative, or abundant, then you are sending out positive energy.

On the other hand, if you are feeling bored, anxious, stressed out, angry, resentful, or sad, you are sending out negative energy.”

The concept may sound simple in a way, but it’s hard to argue with when you take a minute to really think about it…

A fleeting feeling of anxiety or stress may not have much impact, but if you’re ruminating on negative feelings from one hour to the next, your quality of life can begin to be affected.

So, how can you make a real change and feel more assured as you go about your day?

In the section below, I’ll share a list of 10 self-confidence affirmations to start feeling calmer and happier.

10 SELF-CONFIDENCE AFFIRMATIONS YOU CAN USE TODAY

Yes, these may feel cringe-worthy to say at first, but power through — I promise it gets easier with time!

If you’ve never practised affirmations before, saying the phrases to yourself may feel “forced” or awkward.

I’d recommend you do them first thing in the morning or last thing at night (ideally, both).

Repeat the affirmations for self-confidence in front of a mirror, if possible — people often report this has more of an impact.

It’s also best to find a location where you can say the phrases fairly loudly.

The affirmations will be more effective if you can practice them using confident, forthright speech — rather than having to whisper them under your breath in a setting with other people around.

P.S. Don’t feel you have to use all of the affirmations on the list.

You can decide on the two or three that feel like the best “fit” for what you want to achieve. Let me know how you get on!

  1. “I can achieve so much as I develop confidence in myself.”
  2. “Past events are in the past for a reason — I can let go of them now.”
  3. “I aim to be 1% more self-assured than yesterday.”
  4. “With each new moment, I can follow a new, more confident path.”
  5. “I feel the fear and do it anyway.”
  6. “Every day, I take actions to improve my confidence.”
  7. “There’s no such thing as perfection. I focus on progress.”
  8. “My highest self is confident and care-free.”
  9. “Challenges and setbacks are useful learning opportunities.”
  10. “Confidence is becoming my default state.”

The way I explain the importance of affirmations to my clients is like this…

If the Law of Attraction is the toolkit, affirmations are one of the first tools that ought to go in the kit.

Consistency is key when it comes to confidence. Repeating your affirmations several times a day can build a sense of momentum to help you feel calmer and be willing to take more risks.

HOW TO REPROGRAM THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

How to Reprogram the Subconscious Mind (Including Audios & Exercises)

5th December 2020 by Aaron Surtees, the UK’s most recommended hypnotherapist

“Know that in your deeper mind are Infinite Intelligence and Infinite Power.”

This inspiring (and somewhat mysterious) quote comes from The Power of the Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy.

First published in 1963, the popular self-help book now has almost 46,000 reviews on Goodreads…

And a long list of publications on the topic of the subconscious mind has followed since then.

More recently, Dr. Joe Dispenza has risen to fame for his research on neuroscience and manifesting change.

His works “Evolve Your Brain” and “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” were both best-sellers.

This speaks to the ongoing curiosity that people have to explore the mind in greater depth…

We feel there’s something more. We know there’s something more.

But at times, the subconscious mind can seem elusive, and hard to “crack” or decipher with any real clarity.

In my decades of experience as a hypnotherapist, I’ve never lost my passion to both learn about and facilitate subconscious programming.

I’ve met with and treated thousands of clients at this point — individuals who want to overcome phobias, stop addictions or improve their mental health across the board.

What’s clear is that it’s very challenging to “out-think” the conscious mind…

As you may have noticed, the mind is a chatterbox!

It loves to throw up a stream of repetitive (and often useless) thoughts. And what ends up happening?

You get stressed, anxious, or frustrated.

This is where reprogramming of the subconscious mind is so necessary — and so effective.

  • Inside today’s blog, you’ll find out:
  • What Is the Meaning of the Subconscious Mind?
  • Subconscious Mind Exercises & Practices
  • Can You Reprogram the Subconscious Mind While You Sleep?
  • Reprogram the Subconscious Mind Audios

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND?

The easiest way to describe the meaning of the subconscious mind is as follows:

It’s the part of the mind that’s outside of current awareness.

While you go about your day, your subconscious acts as a support system, running your thoughts and emotions on autopilot.

But what’s the benefit of taking the initiative to reprogram your subconscious mind?

Thrive Global outlines this well:

“Learning how to stimulate the communication between the conscious and the subconscious minds is a powerful tool on the way to success, happiness and riches.”

Ever wonder where things like memories, skills, and deep-set beliefs are stored?

That’s right — in the subconscious mind.

You may well have heard of Sigmund Freud, the famous Austrian psychologist who introduced the 3-level mind model.

He divided mental processing into three core categories:

Conscious – Thoughts and behaviours that you’re aware of.

Example: When you notice you feel cold and put on a sweater.

Unconscious – Events from your past that you cannot remember at all.

Example: Not being able to recall the first word you said on Christmas morning when you were five years old.

Subconscious – Automated actions/responses that you can become aware of with enough intention and focus.

Example: Riding a bike or driving a car becomes automatic — but you had to concentrate to learn these actions in the first place.

Remember, our minds and bodies love to use shortcuts to save on energy.

We have to process an incredible amount of information during our waking hours — more than we can fully comprehend.

The subconscious stands in as a guard — filtering out what it sees as irrelevant and only allowing in what it thinks you need.

Because of this, old, dysfunctional beliefs are often difficult to shift…

The subconscious mind likes to stick to what it already knows — even if those beliefs may secretly be holding you back.

SUBCONSCIOUS MIND EXERCISES
Did you know that the subconscious mind is in charge of a huge 95% of your brain’s processing power?

We already know how important it is to train the body…

Daily activity is recommended in the form of walking, jogging, gym work, or other forms of exercise.

Yet how often do you hear the advice to train your subconscious?

Very rarely.

This is a shame, as you may be missing out on a lot of your brain’s potential to learn, reveal, and attain.

Let me ask you this:

If you were asked if you’d like to be richer, smarter, or healthier, you’d probably say yes… right?

That’s the conscious mind talking.

But progress will be slow if you’ve developed deep beliefs in the subconscious that are outdated…

Self-doubt, inadequacy, scarcity — all of these are common.

In order to access and upgrade what can be damaging beliefs, a good place to start is with one of these subconscious mind exercises:

1.Visualisation
Many athletes and high-flying entrepreneurs talk about how they use visualisation for imagining success ahead of time.

Essentially, visualisation reprograms the subconscious mind by increasing your creativity and motivation.

Brain imagery has shown that the simple act of imagining a successful scenario or situation builds new neural pathways…

These new pathways can prime the mind and body to behave in the way we would like.

If there’s one thing to take away here, it’s that the brain can’t actually tell the difference between a real-life event and an imagined action.

Visualisation is the best way to take advantage of this evolutionary mechanism.

2.Meditation
Meditation and mindfulness are increasingly mainstream nowadays, even if they’re not typically labelled as “subconscious mind exercises.”

In a world of so much distraction and busyness, meditation can be a gold mine to relieve and reset…

The only solution to counteract stress is to allow yourself some time to mentally “switch off” the conscious mind, which is constantly thinking.

Having set periods of calm every day or week lets the conscious mind quieten so that you can take advantage of the subconscious.

3.Free-hand writing
Writing is an underrated method to free up precious mental space.

We usually associate writing with school assignments or to-do lists — these are very much activities for the conscious mind…

But have you ever tried flipping open a notepad and letting yourself write whatever you feel like?

A practice called “Morning Pages” is one way to approach free-hand writing…

The idea is to follow your stream of consciousness by writing three pages, first thing in the morning.

What you put on the pages is private for your eyes only. It doesn’t matter if what you write is messy or doesn’t make much sense…

Really, the priority here is to clear out the mental “junk” from the subconscious so that you can get on with your day with more clarity.

CAN YOU REPROGRAM THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND WHILE YOU SLEEP?

Science indicates that reprogramming the subconscious mind while sleeping is indeed possible.

As well-known developmental biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton tells us:

“Twice a day, your brain is prepared to download information and this is where you can reprogram the subconscious mind.”

blank

The two chunks of time to make the most of is when your brain is operating with a “theta” vibrational frequency.

Our brains are known to move through various vibrational frequencies in a 24-hour period.

The delta frequency is active when you’re in deep sleep. As you begin to awaken from the dream state, this frequency switches to theta.

When you become fully awake, you’re in an alpha frequency state. It then moves to the beta state for heavy-duty thinking, such as work tasks.

Theta is the “sweet spot” for subconscious mind reprogramming.

A common method people use to access the theta state is to listen to subliminal tapes when falling asleep.

Although the conscious mind switches off in the phase moving from wakefulness to sleep, the subconscious mind remains active.

The theta state is associated with intuition, creativity, and healing.

Feel free to research subliminal tapes online, or you can check out the audio downloads below.

WEIGHT LOSS HYPNOSIS… DOES IT WORK?

Weight Loss Hypnosis… Does It Work?

11th December 2020 by Aaron Surtees, the UK’s most recommended hypnotherapist

2020 hasn’t been ideal for those who want to slim down.

The lockdown measures have left many people stuck at home most of the time.

As a result, the late-night battle trying to resist the snack cupboard has become an all-day affair.

If you’ve experienced struggles with your weight, I’m sure you’ll have heard the advice that’s often preached about:
Diets (Keto, Paleo, Atkins, etc…)

  • Exercise regimes…
  • Nutritionists…
  • Personal trainers…
  • Detox cleanses…

All of the above can have their place. They seem to work for some, but certainly not for everyone. So what then?

Well, increasingly, people are searching for alternative solutions.

While hypnotherapy for weight loss isn’t exactly “mainstream” yet, its popularity must have doubled — if not tripled — in the past decade…

Why is it getting so much attention?

As the hypnotist and psychotherapist Capri Cruz (Ph.D.) explains:

“It’s different from other methods because hypnosis addresses the cause… directly at the subconscious level in the person’s mind, where their memories, habits, fears, food associations, negative self-talk, and self-esteem germinate.”

She further goes on to say:

“No other weight loss method addresses the core issues at the root like hypnosis does.”

This begins to give you a hint of how weight loss hypnosis works. In today’s blog, I’ll be exploring the topic in more detail.

DOES WEIGHT LOSS HYPNOSIS WORK?

Let’s start by taking a look at what some of the biggest online medical publications have to say about hypnotherapy for weight loss.

Healthline states that “hypnosis may be more effective than diet and exercise alone for people looking to lose weight.”

How does hypnosis work, though?

Mayo Clinic sums up the process well:

“When you’re under hypnosis, your attention is highly focused, and you’re more responsive to suggestions, including behavior changes that can help you lose weight.”

While most of the research to date examines how hypnosis can work for weight loss when combined with other strategies (like counselling and dieting), the small body of research so far has seen positive results.

One study compared hypnotherapy with diet advice for weight loss.

After 18 months, those who’d been given hypnotherapy lost an average of 8 pounds more than the other groups.

If you’d like to read more about hypnosis for weight loss, Oprah Mag published a helpful article answering some key FAQs.

HOW MANY HYPNOSIS SESSIONS FOR WEIGHT LOSS?

In truth, this will vary depending on the hypnotherapist you visit, as well as your goals for therapy.

For example, a smoking cessation hypnosis can sometimes take only one session, whereas

At City Hypnosis, we provide the option of booking in blocks of four hypnotherapy sessions, as this tends to be the average treatment length for clients who visit us.

WEIGHT LOSS HYPNOSIS REVIEWS

  • The Surtees Method for Weight Loss

In this section, I’ll briefly discuss what The Surtees Method is and include reviews from clients who’ve successfully lost weight thanks to the method I use.

There are two main components to The Surtees Method — advanced hypnotic techniques and mind programming (NLP). Together, they have a high success rate of 92% at our City Hypnosis clinic.

But what do others who’ve engaged in this program for the purpose of weight loss have to say about it?

First, let’s hear from Angela, who managed to lose 28 pounds in four months and completely change her relationship with food.

If you’re wondering “does weight loss hypnosis work?” then check out these quotes from Angela in her weight loss hypnosis review:

“Everyone who wants to lose weight knows the steps they need to take but it demands a lot of willpower, so they often fail. That’s why I recommend The Surtees Method — because it’s effortless.”

“I know that to create lasting change, you need to reprogram the way you think about things and your reactions to stimulus. This is why The Surtees Method works, because it works on a subconscious level that makes you change the way you feel and think about a situation.”

“During the hypnosis, it felt completely normal. I was very relaxed and calm, but I was wondering whether it would actually work when I left. But that night, I noticed I left food on my plate, and that was just unheard of.”

“Since doing The Surtees Method, I don’t think about food as much. I’m not obsessed with it and I feel I have more control over my appetite… there’s a little stop in my mind thinking ‘actually, do you really need this right now?’ That’s one of the effects that carry on.”

Angela was chuffed with these results. I’m delighted for her too!

Now, let’s hear from another client who managed to lose 56 pounds with The Surtees Method, showing how well weight loss hypnosis does work.

“Being hypnotised — it is nothing like you experience in some movies where you are completely unconscious. It makes you feel empowered, it makes you feel good… and you will enjoy the whole process.”

“Over 10 years since I first saw Aaron, I did lose 56 pounds and I kept it off. It’s made me feel amazing. I don’t have a problem going out anymore.”

“Since being hypnotised, I don’t crave sweets or crisps — which was my downfall. What I do is have three square meals and I don’t snack. I feel confident and happy with my mind and my body.”

“If you’re looking for a hypnotherapist, I definitely recommend Aaron. He is a nice, friendly, professional person — he will guide you through and will explain how everything will work.”

DO WEIGHT LOSS HYPNOSIS APPS WORK?

Hundreds upon hundreds of weight loss apps exist, but are they worth a shot?

A U.S. study introduced over 200 people with a high body mass index (BMI) to the weight loss app, MyFitnessPal.

Significant weight change was not found among those who used the smartphone app, although patients did report that setting calorie goals had been useful.

And while users were satisfied with the app, there was a sharp decrease in logins after the first month.

Though apps are practical, they can’t replace health therapists and practitioners, who offer you encouragement and support along the way.

Weight loss hypnosis apps that feature the voice of a welcoming, gentle hypnotherapist can work well for this reason — it feels less “clinical” than an app without human interaction.

If you’re searching for an app with weight loss hypnosis audios, but would rather have a downloadable file that you can use on different devices, you may want to consider one of my MP3 audios. You’ll find the specific hypnosis audio for weight loss on this page.

Aside from weight loss, there are also audios for smoking, phobias, insomnia, gambling, and more.

The MP3 files are downloadable on your computer (where you can then transfer them to your phone). Each hypnosis audio is 25-35 minutes, on average.

AN ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO GASTRIC BAND HYPNOTHERAPY

An Essential Guide to Gastric Band Hypnotherapy
21st January 2021 by Aaron Surtees

— the UK’s Most Recommended Hypnotherapist

Have you tried everything…?

Restricted diets, unsustainable exercise regimes — all in a worthy effort to maintain your ideal body weight.

And the scary thing is — as you’re probably aware — being overweight or obese puts you at increased risk of several health issues. Diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure are a just few of the worst ones you want to steer clear of…

But let’s face it, long-term weight management is no easy feat.

Due to the relentless schedule that most of the go-to strategies demand, the failure rate is high. So what can you rely on instead?

Well, the title of this article gives you a clue!

So, let’s get into it and summarise the essentials of gastric band hypnotherapy, how much it costs, and what the benefits are.

WHAT IS GASTRIC BAND HYPNOTHERAPY?

Gastric band hypnotherapy is a specialised type of hypnotherapy that can help you shift from eating behaviours holding you back. It deals with the subconscious mind — or more specifically, deep-set beliefs that often stop people from losing weight as they wish.

Make sense so far?

Good stuff.

By nature, we’re all born with an instinct to eat when we’re hungry and stop when we’re satiated — which supports us to maintain a healthy weight.

Why, then, might you be struggling to follow your body’s natural signals to stop eating when you’re full?

Overeating is a complex behaviour, but is can be rooted in long-standing beliefs that may have stayed with you for decades. The tricky part is, day-to-day stressors or moments of boredom can activate old (and stubborn) thought-behaviour chains.

Now, the role of gastric band hypnosis is to train your subconscious mind that you’ve had a gastric band fitted around your stomach. Pretty clever, right?

In turn, you may find that previously strong urges to overeat are dampened, allowing you to continue to go about your day as normal.

The advanced techniques used in hypnotherapy are a practical alternative to gastric band surgery, which involves surgically fitting a gastric band…

You don’t need me to tell you that surgery can come with certain risks — including side effects and complications that may damage your health if you can’t follow your medical team’s advice.

Both in-person and virtual gastric band hypnosis are safe ways to convince your mind that you’ve actually undergone surgery.

Source: Mirror
After this therapy, you may benefit from feeling like your stomach has shrunk in size. As a result, you’ll feel more satisfied with lighter meals, which can help you to lose weight more quickly.

HOW DOES GASTRIC BAND HYPNOSIS WORK?

Gastric band hypnotherapy is a combination of 4-6 sessions, similar to what you’d receive in other types of hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).

During these personalized sessions, your hypnotherapist will put you into a trance state and speak with you about your current and past eating behaviours. This will assist them to identify the root causes of your weight gain.

What’s more, your therapist will gently reprogram your mind with healthy eating habits and positive thoughts that boost confidence and self-belief.

Following the round of sessions, you should be able to start making healthier food choices with greater ease.

The essential part is to make your brain realise it isn’t being punished or denied by going without “cheat” foods. Gastric band hypnotherapy aims to “reprogram” your mind, with fresh, new beliefs that give you more willpower.

Over time, you can benefit from this new perception of food and how you view your body.

Finally, your hypnotherapist will give you recordings that contain subliminal messages to stick to your updated eating habits. You should listen to them every day to reinforce the hypnotherapy results.

IS GASTRIC BAND HYPNOTHERAPY SAFE?

Yes, gastric band hypnotherapy is 100% safe.

Unlike surgery, there’s no recovery period and it won’t harm your mind or body. Your hypnotherapist will never make you think anything you don’t want to whilst in hypnosis.

Don’t worry — when you’re brought out of the trance, you won’t feel weird or spaced out. And yes, you’ll remember everything that occurs during the sessions!

Clients of mine typically say that they feel calm, relaxed, and focused after each session.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF GASTRIC BAND HYPNOSIS?

1.Take Control of your Meals
If you’re overweight, you may feel pressured to follow weight loss programs that involve counting calories. It’s hard to keep up with regimented plans.

But when it comes to gastric band hypnotherapy, you don’t have to count the calories you’re consuming. And you can shout “hooray!” because there’ll be no strict diet plans, either. Instead, you’ll be encouraged to put your own plans and weight goals in place.

Really, the basic premise in gastric band hypnotherapy is that your mind plays a vital role in your weight loss journey.

For instance, you may keep getting cravings to eat unhealthy foods (or simply too much food) at awkward times of the day.

Afternoons and night-time tend to be the two biggest danger zones!

But hypnotherapy can alleviate this issue and reprogram your mind to start eating nourishing meals that sustain you and trim down on any excess weight you might be carrying.

2.No Need to Rely on Weight Loss Products
I can’t deny that people who use weight loss products can and do lose weight. However, regaining the weight they lost is frustratingly common once people stop using the product.

In face-to-face and virtual gastric band hypnotherapy, there are no weight loss products involved…

The easy-to-follow techniques allow you to lose weight naturally. I see this as one of the most significant benefits of hypnosis, because it can improve self-esteem and self-worth.

3.Weight Loss Made Easier than Ever
After dieting for weeks or months and not witnessing the results they’d hoped for, many people give up and return to their old eating patterns.

Gastric band hypnotherapy can bring your mind and emotions on board with the weight loss process. You’ll feel less hungry and make losing weight your prime goal.

As a result, this therapy is great for eliminating the mental tension, stress, and negative feelings that can be a constant hassle during your weight loss journey.

And just in case you ever fall back into old eating habits, your hypnotherapist can encourage you to go easy on yourself and stick to the goals that match your new identity.

HOW MUCH DOES GASTRIC BAND HYPNOSIS COST?

The cost of gastric band hypnotherapy will vary from therapist to therapist.

Hypnotherapists with years of experience are likely to charge more.

Typically, the total for 4-6 sessions will cost £1000 – £1500, which is still considerably lower than gastric band surgery.

FINAL WORDS

Gastric band hypnosis is a fast-acting, non-invasive way to move towards your target body weight.

The therapy will work best for you if your intentions for losing weight are clear, and you’re prepared to take the necessary actions.

Active participation in the treatment is key — it’s very much a “with you” rather than “to you” process. You’ll be able to have open discussions with your hypnotherapist and listen to the shared recordings to get the best results.

So, all things considered, what’s holding you back?

Feel free to ask me any questions you may have on info@cityhypnosis.com.

Or, you may want to go ahead and book an appointment with my team on this page so we can help you achieve your weight goals.

STOPPING THE URGE: HYPNOSIS FOR EMOTIONAL EATING

Stopping the Urge: Hypnosis for Emotional Eating

9th February 2021 by Aaron Surtees – UK’s Most Recommended Hypnotherapist
blank
What you’ll learn today — how hypnosis for emotional eating can help to loosen harmful ties to food and make comfort eating a thing of the past.

Usually, one of the two S’s are to blame:

  • STRESS
  • SADNESS

Food swoops in, the faithful friend that it is, to soothe the uncomfortable emotions niggling away inside.

The trouble is, it works…

You get a welcome distraction from a jolt of stress — or get dragged free from a cloud of sadness — and the mind is put at ease.

But the peace-of-mind doesn’t last long and when the next negative emotion arises, the food cravings come again. With repetition over weeks, months, and years, your habitual behaviour sets in. Does this sound familiar?

I hear you. And as you’ll know, the mind has control over most of what we do — including what (and how often) we eat.

Let’s run through a quick example, shall we?
Imagine yourself under stress — maybe you feel behind in your work or you can’t get to sleep at night. It feels like some kind of invisible switch turns on in your mind, and now it says:

“Food. That’s what you need. You’ll feel better after you eat.”

Your stomach may begin to rumble and, suddenly, you start craving those cookies stashed away in the cupboard. It’s an uphill battle trying to resist the temptation. Eventually, you “give in” to the urge.

The issue is, while we can choose with ease if we want cheese or pickles with our burgers, we can’t control our emotions as effectively.

And if you may feel alone or ashamed about this part of your life, rest assured that emotional eating is common… very common! Heading to the comfort of the kitchen during moments of frustration or boredom is an impulse that millions of people struggle with every day.

Yet, having to keep your emotions in check 24/7 to ignore the impulse to eat is no easy feat. Which is why hypnotherapy for comfort eating is so powerful — it changes the subconscious thought loops that are active in the background, driving you to eat more and more.

WAIT, HYPNOSIS FOR EMOTIONAL EATING… REALLY?

Yes. Hypnotherapy is a popular method to “speak” to your subconscious mind, including the thoughts and beliefs that dictate your eating patterns.

I’m pretty sure you’ll have seen magicians hypnotise people in movies or TV shows. Right?

Unfortunately, the process of hypnosis often gets over-dramatised in the media. In real life, a hypnotherapy session is much gentler and calmer.

blank

If practiced correctly, you can rewire your brain to bypass conscious patterns and adopt healthier habits. The list of things you can do with this technique is almost endless, but hypnosis for emotional eating has been increasing in popularity due to its often quick and beneficial effects.

Thinking “I don’t know, it just seems kinda woo-woo?”

Don’t worry. A lot of people will have this initial reaction, as they haven’t experienced hypnosis before and understandably have some scepticism.

Indeed, anything new or different is likely to cause the same reaction…

But what’s interesting is, the doubters can actually turn out to have the best therapy outcomes!

WHY DOES HYPNOSIS WORK FOR EMOTIONAL EATING? AND HOW?

Eating behaviour has a direct link with your emotions — and these emotions take hold in your subconscious mind.

So, it goes without saying that by making adjustments to the patterns of your subconscious, we can also make adjustments to your behaviour (e.g. stop giving in to food cravings).

To do so, a hypnotherapist guides you with customised cues, speaking patterns, and relaxation techniques to “reprogram” your habits.

This way, you can avoid reacting to your emotions with negative eating behaviors that impact your quality of life.

HOW CAN I START HYPNOTHERAPY?

It’s easier than you think.

Even though there are some self-hypnosis courses on YouTube and Google, it’s going to be better for you to opt for a professional — at least when you’re starting out.

Finding a licensed hypnotherapist in your area is the first step. It’s not too different from choosing a doctor or psychologist. You’ll be best-served by seeking treatment from a practitioner who you can trust and build a relationship with.

It’s important to know that not all hypnotherapy sessions are the same. But they are all similar.

Usually, you will sit in a comfortable chair (or lay on a sofa) and be encouraged to begin to clear your mind from all thoughts and feelings.

Your hypnotherapist may put on some relaxing sounds or music to gradually bring you into a calm, grounded state. This part is essential because the subconscious mind is more open to change when you feel safe.

Once you’ve reached a comfortable and calm state, it’s time to let the hypnotherapist do their magic and begin the healing process.

Techniques such as visualisations, affirmations, and suggestions may be introduced, one at a time.

As the session progresses, you should feel that each technique brings you a new layer of confidence that food won’t have the same power over you. And this can be pretty darn liberating!

blank

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE FIRST SESSION?

After finishing your first emotional eating hypnosis, you’ll begin to be more conscious of how you feel. Almost as if you have got a “bird’s eye view” of your mind, and can choose whether you act on impulses or not.

Being positive about any changes and acknowledging that this is the first step for you is an important part of the journey.

Your hypnotherapy practitioner will be at hand for guidance and advice every step of the way, as you distance yourself from past eating behaviours, such as a sweet or sugar addiction.

Remember, your brain has been wired for a long time to react negatively to your emotions. Hypnotherapy can bring positive change, fast, but don’t forget to celebrate the small wins.

Be proud of yourself for taking back control. And just think how free you’ll feel in a few months’ time when you can eat the amount of food you need and no more.

DOES HYPNOTHERAPY HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Yep… but they’re all good ones!

You won’t be cross-eyed by the end or muttering nonsense. You’ll simply feel calmer (and probably happier too) as if a load has been lifted.

You can think of hypnotherapy as a fancier, higher-level form of guided meditation. And there’s nothing too scary about meditation, is there?

On the contrary, hypnosis sessions will allow you to feel healthier in both mind and body.

blank

As the sessions go on, your subconscious mind will update and reset old connections to create new thought-behaviour loops.

Over time, hypnosis for emotional eating has a ton of potential benefits, including:

  • Reduce impulses to comfort eat
  • Less anxiety and stress
  • Increase in self-confidence
  • More mental clarity
  • A healthier lifestyle
  • Improvement in emotional awareness

AND AFTER I’M HYPNOTISED, WHAT THEN?

With your newfound awareness of what thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations are causing you to overeat, you can assess situations from a fresh perspective..

The next time you feel like giving in to a craving, you’ll be able to step in and break the chain. Questions you can ask yourself include:

  • If I eat this, will I feel better or worse in the long term?
  • Why am I eating this?
  • Am I doing this because I want to or is it part of a pattern?
  • Am I even hungry right now?

There is no such thing as perfection and the same goes for food. But with this improved awareness and the techniques you’ll learn (such as the suggestions and visualisations mentioned earlier), hypnotherapy can help you beat your cravings one at a time.
Aside from these techniques, there are a couple of habits you’ll be encouraged to develop:

Learn to limit your portions blank

You may be surprised by how little food you require to be truly full.

Try to stop eating because you “have to” and start enjoying your meals. Savour each mouthful of food you take.

In this case, quality is better than quantity. And that brings us to my second piece of advice …

Make healthier choices

Examining your relationship with food and understanding how it impacts your body will allow you to make better decisions.

Soon, you’ll learn how to “hear” what your body likes. Changing your consumption habits will make you eat meals that are healthier and more nutritious for your body function, energy levels, and mood.

We can’t say that hypnosis is a cure-all for emotional eating (nothing is!) but without doubt, hypnosis is an effective tool to make life-changing shifts in your thoughts and behaviours.

Refreshing your emotional relationship with food makes eating all that much more enjoyable, rather than stressful or toxic to your health.

Healing the Mind: Hypnotherapy for Erectile Dysfunction

Healing the Mind: Hypnotherapy for Erectile Dysfunction

5th March 2021 by Aaron Surtees – UK’s Most Recommended Hypnotherapist

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is generally kept hush-hush in society, but the truth is, a lot of men experience it at some point.

ED is thought to affect around 10% of men in each decade of life (e.g. 60% of 60-69 year olds, 50% of 50-59 year olds, and so forth).

Often, the impact isn’t just physical. Guys who’ve had to deal with ED report feelings such as frustration and shame, which can turn into sex anxiety, fearing they will not be able to “perform” as they and their partner wish.

blank

So, aside from drugs and blue pills, is there anything that can be done for ED?

Yes, there is. Hypnotherapy for erectile dysfunction offers a novel and mind-shifting approach for men who are stuck in a bit of a sex rut. Let’s find out why — but first, have you ever been left confused about what can cause ED?

WHAT CAUSES ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION?

If you have experienced erectile dysfunction (ED) before, you’re not alone. Achieving and maintaining a firm erection isn’t as straightforward as it can be made out to be. A lot of physical and mental processes are involved.

Erections occur due to an increase in blood flow to the penis. This behaviour is usually caused by sexually arousing thoughts or direct contact with the penis itself.

When a man feels sexual excitement, the muscles around the penis relax and allow the blood to fill the chambers inside it.

Yet, an erection won’t occur if the muscles are contracted, as this will block the flow of blood in the arteries that supply it.

blank

There are a lot of factors that can cause ED. A few of the most common medical and psychological reasons include:

  • Aging
  • Diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular problems, high blood pressure or kidney disease
  • Fatigue and sleep disturbance
  • Low testosterone
  • Relationship problems
  • Stress, anxiety, and/or depression

HOW CAN I KNOW IF I WILL … YOU KNOW?

Experience ED? Well, if you’ve had to manage the condition before, you’ll know that the symptoms are pretty obvious.

Having trouble with getting (or keeping) the penis firm enough to be able to successfully have sex is the main thing that most men and their partners notice.

Yet, some other disorders may appear too. These include premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation, or the inability to orgasm.

Reduced interest in sexual activities may also come about, due to hormonal imbalances or a subtle fear of sex that has built up over repeated failed attempts.

Is There a Cure for Erectile Dysfunction?

Of course, there are a lot of treatments for ED, yet how helpful they are will significantly depend on the underlying cause.

Certain types of ED can be relieved by using medications — please consult your doctor about this option.

While other men have good results using vacuum pumps to stimulate erections by pumping more blood to the penile tissues.

Yet, for psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, PTSD, and depression, there are alternative therapies that may be better placed.

Forms of talking therapy are one of the most popular methods. Open discussion with a professional can go a long way to relieving tension or apprehension you may feel when it comes to sex.

Sharing your feelings (which can be a challenge for many blokes!) is often useful to understand the way your mind is perceiving sex. Is the mind putting too much pressure on you? Are you starting to resent or avoid sex, for fear of failure? Getting clarity on these thought patterns can result in more mental freedom and improved sexual performance.

Yet, even though talking therapy is great, it’s not the only psychological treatment for ED.

In recent years, hypnosis for erectile dysfunction has become another go-to therapy many people are exploring.

What? Hypnosis?

Yep, hypnosis! Psychological ED is a separate variant of medical ED. And the psychological form of ED can be treated using hypnotherapy.

blank

Psychological ED differs from medical ED due to it being present only during sexual intercourse.

If you’re able to get an erection when you wake up or while dreaming but have difficulties while having sex, then it’s probable that your problem can be solved with hypnosis.

Is Hypnosis for Erectile Dysfunction Effective?

The short answer?

Yes!

Hypnosis for erectile dysfunction has been highlighted as an efficient method for ED.

There are a range of cognitive and psychological techniques employed by hypnotherapists, such as:

Systematic desensitization

If you’re unable to achieve an erection due to stressful situations, this type of therapy may help you.

In this approach, your hypnotherapist will guide you through anxiety-provoking situations while you’re in a calm, hypnotised state.

blank

Don’t worry, it isn’t like the movies where you lose control of your body!

Instead, you’ll be in a relaxed frame of mind and will learn some tools that will aid you in approaching sex with confidence.

Cognitive approach

Cognitive approaches are usually used along with systematic desensitisation to achieve the best results.

This type of hypnosis for erectile dysfunction aims to refocus the erectile failure into something else. As a result, you’ll be able to adjust your internal thought process and view sex in a more empowering way.

It can be beneficial to re-learn and affirm that sex is meant to be a pleasurable experience — not one to resent or fear. This approach can guide you to understand how to enjoy sex again and stimulate your partner as you would like.

Psychodynamic approach

Psychodynamic approaches are often longer-term therapies. They involve a deep exploration of your relationships, both past and present.

Learning about the way that you experience love and your sexuality may shift your thoughts and beliefs surrounding sex. This in turn can help you to relieve stress that’s been locked inside you for years, and possibly become part of your identity.

But I Don’t Understand! How Does Hypnosis Work?

No worries! Let’s break it down in clear terms…

Here are some of the most common ways that hypnosis is used for erectile dysfunction:

1. Letting go of mental “blocks”

As the brain plays a significant role in the physiological reactions that create an erection, it’s important to take care of it.

The sexual excitement that’s the usual cause of an erection may be blocked. Psychological ailments such as depression, anxiety, and stress are also common blockers.

Unfortunately, this then becomes a vicious cycle as the ED may cause more anxiety and stress in the long run.

In these cases, hypnosis can be a powerful therapy — learning relaxation strategies to help you focus and approach sex with a sense of fun again.

2. Restoring your inner confidence

Losing confidence in yourself and low self-esteem can also be underlying causes of psychological ED.

If you’re too self-conscious or feel insufficient during your sexual activities, hypnotherapy is here to help.

You can retrace the root of your feelings back to previous issues and shed light on these so that they don’t feel so heavy. Some of the most common issues can be a bad relationship, jealousy, resentment towards your partner, or other previous embarrassing sexual encounters.

During therapy, you’ll be able to rebuild your sexual confidence and feel safe and comfortable once again.

3. Rewiring your habits

Remember how important blood flow is? Well, while good habits like exercise may help you increase it, bad habits, like smoking, can have an impact.

As giving up smoking is difficult, hypnosis has been proven as an effective way to stop it.

Rewiring your brain and getting rid of this type of activity may assist in increasing blood flow to the penis, and enable stronger erections.

What’s more, leading a healthier lifestyle (such as lifting weights and sleeping well) can do wonders for increasing libido and sexual cravings.

If you have problems such as eating habits, lack of exercise, and heavy drinking, try giving hypnotherapy a go. It’s a great strategy to start rewiring daily habits to commit to a better lifestyle.

4. Living in the moment

I know, I know. This sounds a bit spiritual. But are you really savouring the present moment as you go about your day?

Most men focus on the need to excel during sex and miss the actual point: to be intimate and mutually enjoy the act.

Hypnosis can help you feel less self-conscious by noticing the pleasant sensory experiences associated with sex and tapping into the present moment.

After all, what is sex without pleasure, right?

How Can I Start with Hypnotherapy?

First of all, I’m glad that you’ve decided to start this journey using hypnotherapy. Hypnosis has a lot of misconceptions surrounding it, but it’s a robust set of psychological techniques that you can benefit from.

If you want to start using hypnosis for erectile dysfunction, the first thing you have to do is find a therapist that you can trust.

Make sure to choose the right hypnotherapist for you, as this feeling comfortable to talk openly with your therapist is a key part of the healing process.

After you have made your first appointment, remember to hold on to a little patience. You may see progress in the first session, but typically 4-8 sessions are required to really notice your beliefs are changing for the better.

Why being slim is a state of mind: The five-step hypnosis programme that will help you to banish Covid stone & keep the weight off for good!

Here below Aaron explains why the Covid pandemic has had such an impact on our diet and eating habits, and the 5-step hypnosis programme that will help you to lose excess weight and stay slim forever.

Understand why you have put on weight

‘’Before embarking on a weight loss journey it’s important to understand why you’ve been overeating. The root cause for many over the last year will have been the uncertainty caused by the Covid pandemic”.

‘’Emotional eating – eating when we’re not hungry but for comfort – usually occurs out of boredom, stress, upset or a combination of all these factors”.

‘’The rush of endorphins caused by comfort eating help guard and deflect away from stresses and make us feel happier temporarily”.

‘’Stress and massive uncertainty and also boredom resulting from the pandemic has drastically altered eating habits in our attempts to feel better. But actually fuelling a vicious cycle of feeling better temporarily, but worse longer term as we add excess weight and feel worse about ourselves and our health’’.

Why hypnosis works and is better than a diet

‘’Hypnosis is all about fundamental mindset shifts that change your relationship with food. This will lead to new healthy eating habits becoming naturally ingrained subconsciously for the long term. Weight loss is all down to the power of the mind. My techniques will have greater power than fad diets and will stop you from being at the mercy of your weighing scales”.

‘’The techniques outlined below will help you to become happier and more confident and eventually you will be able to eat what you want without feeling shame or guilt”.

‘’Being slim is a state of mind. It’s the way you think and behave around food that makes a powerful difference’.’

The five-step hypnosis techniques

  1. The first step is to visualise the new you at your ideal weight and size several months from now. This simple but powerful exercise, which you should do every morning, will train your unconscious mind to help you lose weight permanently.
  2. Using an appetite control mechanism in hypnosis that will help to reduce appetite. This involves asking clients to imagine an appetite dial. The appetite dials are able to be dialled down so that the client only eats when physiologically hungry and stops as soon as that hunger has been satisfied. Clients naturally consume less food to satisfy their hunger using this dial system.
  3. Hypnosis will help you to see food as fuel. Clients learn the difference between real physical hunger and comfort eating which amounts to eating for the sake of eating and is driven by our emotions. Physical hunger gradually builds over several hours where as emotional hunger is often sudden and linked to feelings of boredom, stress or upset which will prompt a visit to the fridge. Hypnosis will encourage clients to listen to their bodies so that they are able to recognise the signs of genuine hunger.
  4. Mindfulness around food, becoming aware of what you’re eating and why. Hypnosis will teach you to focus on your food and nothing else when you’re eating. Clients are encouraged to slow down the speed at which they eat and to chew each mouthful properly. This alters the experience of eating as you no longer wolf food down but are taking the time to savour it, experience the food that you are eating and crucially you will hear a signal from your brain that will tell you when you are full.
  5. The sugar addiction aversion. An aversion to excess sugary and floury foods becomes the new norm when hypnotised. Hypnotic suggestions creating a feeling of sickness and nausea when sugary foods are eaten to excess, creating a contentment to stick clear of sugary foods and drinks.

Are you next for your Covid jab? Celebrity hypnotherapist reveals a 90% surge in calls to tackle needle phobia & reveals his best tips to tackle the problem

So what can be done to tackle needle phobia & where does it stem from?

Mr Surtees believes the answer lies in a combination of treatments including cognitive behaviourial therapy (CBT) and clinical hypnotherapy.

‘’A phobia of needles is essentially an irrational fear based on the rational need to protect the body and mind from suffering potential harm. People with needle phobia have a fear of pain, they fear lack of control and the fear that something bad will happen.

‘’Needle phobia can originate from a bad medical experience but for the majority of people, when asked, will say they’re not sure where it has come from, it is something that has always been with them.

‘’Once people start the process of therapy they realise that often it stems from an incident that happened in childhood that turned into a massive deal and has gone into adulthood with them.

‘’The good news is that all phobias can be completely eliminated depending on the person and their openness and willingness to change their mindset around their phobia whether it’s needles or something else.’’

Around three sessions of hypnotherapy and CBT are recommended said Mr Surtees: ‘’I have seen a high success rate with my clients. The first session will prime your brain to accept change and the following two sessions will reinforce the rewiring of the brain and the changes that are now the ‘new normal’ when you see needles.

‘’It is always best to see a qualified professional when undergoing hypnotherapy as they are best placed to know how to lead your mind to the right state to accept change and a new way of thinking.’’

The 3-step process to overcoming needle phobia

  1. ‘’Recognising you have a needle phobia and want to tackle it is the most important starting point. Until you accept you have a problem and need to change you can’t move forward with therapy.’’
  2. ‘’Become comfortable with the idea of needles being good and necessary. De-sensitise yourself by watching as many medical programmes as possible. This will help on a subconscious level.’’
  3. ‘’The steps above start the process of reprogramming your mind and allow you to reap the benefits of hypnotherapy and CBT. The process I like to use involves placing a client in a state of hypnosis and relaxation. Closing the mind’s eye of a client makes them open to hypnotic suggestion. Through positive visualisations: picturing themselves without fear, relaxed and confident around needles combined with positive affirmations helps to start the journey of rewiring the mind.’’
